Penny Lorain is the founder and creative force behind Lorain Design Associates. Penny earned a Bachelor in Design with High Honors from UC Davis while falling in love with both Davis and all aspects of design. With over 30 years of experience in architecture, remodeling and interior design, Penny has a passion for creating stunningly beautiful yet practical custom home designs, transformative home remodels and unique commercial projects.

Penny is highly respected in her field and has received awards for her successful remodel designs and client satisfaction. Penny inspires her design team and Lorain Design's trusted contractor-partners to make every project more outstanding than our clients could have imagined.

MATTHEW LAUGHLIN

Project Manager and Remodel Designer

Matthew is a Davis native who studied architecture at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco, earning his Bachelor of Architecture Degree. Matthew worked for prestigious architecture firms in the Bay Area as a Project Manager of high-end residential and commercial projects for 15 years before returning to the Davis area.

Matthew enjoys working with contractors and clients on all aspects of a design, from exploring initial ideas and concepts to specifying all the details that make his projects unique. He has excellent problem-solving and project-management skills and his enthusiasm for great design makes him a valuable asset to our team.

JEANETTE MITCHELL

Senior Designer, Kitchen & Bath Specialist

Jeanette Mitchell has honed her design skills with over 15 years in the field. Jeanette specializes in Kitchen and Bath design, using exclusive cabinet software to create detailed perspective drawings and the intricate specifications of proposed cabinetry and interior spaces. She has earned numerous accolades for her outstanding design and presentation skills.

Jeanette has been nationally recognized for her ability to create stunning and functional spaces that exceed her clients’ expectations. Her commitment to delivering exceptional results has earned her a loyal following of satisfied clients who appreciate her passion, creativity, and dedication to their vision.

MELYSSA LEE

Business Manager and Drafting Services

Melyssa Lee is another UCD graduate in Design who is a master of business organization and Chief Architect drafting. Melyssa trains new employees in Lorain Design systems and procedures, manages the website and marketing campaigns, continually improves business practices and adds to our company's success in every venue.

Melyssa creates realistic perspective drawings to illustrate our design concepts and surface material options, so our clients can preview their designs before construction begins. She also drafts the architectural drawing sets with all the dimensions, notes and building codes needed for our contractor labor bids and Building Permit applications.

AMIE YOUNG

Office & Finance Administrator

Amie holds a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from AIU Georgia. She joined the Lorain Design team after working for 5 years as an Office Manager for a home improvement company and 20 years in the service and logistics industries. Amie is in charge of all payments coming in and out of the office. She also processes and expedites orders for flooring, plumbing fixtures, lighting, etc., arranges shipping and delivery of materials and schedules contractor and subcontractor work for our remodel projects.

She is proficient in business management and operations which has proven to be a great value when it comes to monitoring and regulating accounts. Her fascination for all forms of design and remodeling along with her strong knowledge of business operations and account management make her ideal for the company’s vision.
